What sport is the best for me?

I live in Saipan. I was born in republic of Korea, Busan. I am already 17 years old which is junior. I still can’t believe I’m junior already. And as I get older, works that I have to finish is getting more and more. This is not great for me because whenever I have free time I love to watch movie or animation. But these days I could not have any chance to enjoy my free time. So I joined school bally ball team. Which it was not good choice if I think about once more, because I have not get chance to play in a game. By the way, for more than one month I tried my best to get in starter but I failed. So I decided to just quit the team. I am not a quitter, but I had no choice because sitting down on bench everyday was not worth time for me as junior. I joined team to have fun and practice, but in this situation it seems impossible so I will just use that time in another activity. I am thinking to join soccer team which my classmates always favoring me to join. I loved soccer since I was young and I used to play also I more comfortable with playing soccer than valley ball. They have one problem, which they are outnumbered. Even thought I join the team, the team still needs two more people. In view of the results so far, although team is made, it won’t be a good team because there would be no substitution. Especially in Saipan, hot weather would cause a lot of problem. I will see how it goes and decide join or not. I do not know why it is so hard to do one activity. So now I am planning to join soccer team with my classmates. The team name is called IT&E. I decided to join because it seems fun and I wanted spend time with my classmates. Volley ball has 5 players in other hand soccer has 11 players, which means there is more chance to get play. Anyways I will try my best in this time if I could get a chance.

The famous celebrity I met...

The famous celebrity I met was Bill Gates. Bill Gates is a person who invented computer. I liked him since I read book about history of computer. He invented computer when he was teenage. He was very poor but was full with enthusiasm. And one day he invented Microsoft. By the way the reason why I want to meet him is to know about his life. I want to know more about computer so I could become more professional. As widely known Bill Gates is very wealthy and considered the most successful man in the world. So I thought about becoming a successful man, and then I came up with an idea that I should try! Also I came up with another question that why people are respecting him. At last I ended up with two conclusions, the first one, people respect his achievement. Second, people respect him and believe he would be a good guy based on his achievement but there is no way to know one’s personality until you meet that person. Bill Gates is famous and all people respect him. So I want to meet him and know about his personality, is it good as his achievement or is it only the achievement. So I could measure he has right to be respected from the people. For example, Columbus is considering as the most famous person for the discovery of America, but he is also considered as evil guy. Because, later, people found out that he killed a lot of people. So he made a great achievement but he also did such merciless act. By the way I want to find out his reality so that I could know I should continue to respect him or not.

If I were a millionaire

If I were a millionaire, there are bunch of things that I want to do. First, I will save half of money in the bank in case. And then with remains I will spend on whatever I want. I will go travel, eat and buy. If I could travel, I will go Europe first. Europe is very far from my home country and it is cold too also building in there are has different shape than other country. After that it would be United State, even thought I live in U.S. territory, which is Saipan, it is not same as state. So I want to experience myself and spend some money there! It would be the most memorable memory. Lastly I would go Japan; Japan is great a sight spot. Last year I been there with my families, but it was only two day trip so I was not satisfied. There are still many places left that I want to go and eat in Japan. Money is most essential thing to live, with money almost everything can buy. I will buy house, car that require everything in daily life. And there is one more thing I want to buy, which is laptop. The best performance laptop in the world because I usually spend my whole day with my laptop. So it is one of the major things. I never thought becoming millionaire, but if I become millionaire, I think it fallows with great responsibility. Because spending or wasting is easiest in the world but keeping it means that I will think a way to increase my million. So that, I can give to my next generation. Also, it makes me feel safer in unlimited money than limited.

My favorite holiday

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving Day is very special day, because we share food on this holiday. Also in our school, whenever it comes to Thanksgiving Day, we always had celebration. Celebration is more like food festival, all the students bring their food to the school and share together. The best thing about this is Korean bring Korean food and Chinese bring Chinese food, which means there are lots of kinds of food. However, amounts of people bringing food are much less than number of people participating the festival. So, every year I never had chance to get enough food. By the way my favorite food is sushi. There are two type of sushi, Korean style and Japanese style. Each of them have feature, but I prefer Japanese style although I am Korean. Because as far as I know Korean sushi is very simple but Japanese sushi is more stuffed and various. When I lived in Korea, when Thanksgiving days comes I always asked my mother to buy me rice cake. At that time, my favorite food was rice cake. The reason why I always asked her to buy me food, because when I was young where the date is marked with red color on the calendar I thought that is special day. May fifth is children’s day, I used to get present from my dad at that day which is marked with red color, so it may made me think that I all the red marks on the calendar except weekend. 2009, only a week left before Thanksgiving Day. I am so happy that I could taste all kinds of food. I think eating is most pleasure thing in the world, I do not think life would be meaningless without eating. I am expecting to eat all kinds of food in this year, so I have to move faster than any other people.

If I could choose the place to die..

The place I want to die is space. With current technology it may impossible. But soon or later, when I am about to die the technology would not be same as now. Space is very big it is larger than earth and Sun. It is not measureable. Also there are is four-dimensional space. I cannot believe there is another dimension in one space. Since I was young, I wanted go space. Space is full of mysterious and marvelousness. I never seen black hole I my life. Most people usually would not get a chance to see black hole, but I will. Maybe if we have enough technology to get away from black hole then I will. And also the space’s gravity is not same as earth’s, so all the object is floating. Since I was young, I loved to see starts during the night time, space not only has darkness but also it has great view such as canal or shooting star. If I have to die I will choose where I can see stars and planets all at the time. That would make my afterlife easier and happier. When our technology become enough to go travel space, I will buy a space ship and travel around space. It might be very risky but I do not want to lose unique chance in my life. I believe there are so many things that we still do not know in space. And who knows there are alien. So I am planning to go check. But before I die I will travel around the space and know about the place I will die. If I die I do not just want to be buried. I wish remain ashes want to be spread out in space so that way I would feel freer.

Approximately, when I was only five feet tall and full of dreams, my first dream was going amusement park with my family. At that time in amusement park there was everything that I loved such as animal or animation character so that it was my most favorite. My family was not able to go amusement park frequently. In school I was always jealous of my friend, who tells his or her story of trip to amusement park. “So what?” This is the only two words I always responded to them. There was some reason why I could not go to the amusement park often. The main reason was my mother. She was so busy that she could not bring me to amusement park during the week day and also on weekend. My mother and father had job, so I was barely see them before I go to sleep. So I had no guardian who will protect me in amusement park and economic problem.
Somehow in senior trip, I went to amusement park in Korea. As I expected it was amazing, I spend whole day playing there. I had not got much chance to go amusement park, so that everything in there were just unbelievable. When my dad, sister and I are riding a rollercoaster she was always taking picture. She also didn’t like rollercoaster. End of that day my dad said “I guess I should not ride anymore I am old” it was kind of fun joke to me now. At that time, I just thought hm.. but now I agree with that I absolutely have no idea what would happen If I go there at this age.
If I get a chance to go there one more time, I would want to go with my granddaughter. It would be more fun than last time. The dream that I always wanted to do in entire my life is achieved but I still want to go there again with person whom I love.

EC - Qualities of great leader

A good leader can make a good nation. Commonly, a leader should be qualified in many ways. One of qualifies is generosity; a leader should be generous to anyone. So that everyone can respect and admire a leader. Second qualifies is credibility, it is very important to have a credit. No one would want to have a business with someone like swindler. Also workers would want to work under whom is more credible and dependable. Third qualification is one’s intelligence, who would want to have a business with someone like have no knowledge at all. Furthermore a leader should have a venture and charisma. A good leader should have a charisma to precede a project or its business. Another important qualifies is sacrifice, a leader should know how to sacrifice himself for others. Leader should not runaway from any situation. Leader always should be the one standing in the front. Also, leader should have responsibility. So, he would make a right decision in any situation and responsible for it. We all of these qualifies gathers together then it called a good leader. For example, at ancient time there were kings and queen, who ruled the entire nation. Leader always have plan to achieve their goal. King would have plan such as lengthening the land. And President in now would plan increasing economic. So basically I am trying to say there is always plan to achieve something. But without plan and good leader it cannot become real.

When I was in soccer team, I was a leader of my team. By practicing together I realized that teamwork is most important thing in soccer play. It works for anything; leader should control its team in order to make a good teamwork by directing team. Not only soccer there is much stuff that requires teamwork or leader.

Journal 10/29 South Korea and North Korea

The North and the South Korea have been separated for more than fifty years since the Korean War. South Korea and North Korea are different in many ways, but they have one major similarity. Geographically, both South and North Korea are living around Korean Peninsula and have same history until now.

First, in South Korea, political system is different from North Korea. South Korea has developed a successful liberal democracy since the 1960s. South Korea’s political system is mainly composed of people. National liberal thoughts, ideas and religious freedoms, all of these can be admitted in South. The people in the South have the freedom to vote for their leaders. The leader which has been selected by the people runs the government according to the will of the people. Moreover, in the South everybody has the right to equally receive education. National authority is the separation of powers which includes executive, legislative and judicial.

In North Korea, in contrast to South Korea, the political system is called formally socialism. But the system is more likely communism which means all businesses and other properties are owned by the government for the use and good of the people. Especially, the biggest difference between communism and democracy is that the people in the North cannot vote for their own leaders. National authority is all concentrated in one greatest person, who is Kim Jeong Il, in North Korea and national people’s rights became trampling. Also, under the communist system the North Koreans have no right of freedom. For example, they can’t have freedom of movement. If North Koreans want to move or transfer, they must have permission from the government. For sustaining Kim Jeong Il’s dictatorship and political awareness and right of freedom is suppressed.

On the other hand, North Korea is an entirely government-planned, state-owned economy. Their economy mean was belonged to Jeong Il Kim and all of enterprises should follow epoch-making economic policy. North Korea's isolation policy means that international trade is highly restricted hampered their significant potential for economic growth. Unfortunately not everybody in the North has the opportunity to receive education and have equal position. Within the communist system, their economy is completely nationalized. It means that food rations, housing, healthcare, and education are offered from the state for free. In other words, people who work hard and people who work do not hard, they also get the same reward. This is the one reason people do not try hard to improve their economy. Because of those problems, lack of individual efforts and the growth of industry were the main factors of North Korea’s collapse. At the present time, North Korea is considering the introduction of market economy.

Unlike South Korea, North Korea was particular concern for their denial of religious liberty since the Korean War. Kim Jeong Il has deified his father, with policies leading to the worship of Kim Il Sung. Those engaged in religious practices deemed unacceptable to the regime. Because the North Korean regime has largely closed itself off from the rest of the world. Today, North Korean constitution states that freedom of religion is permitted. However, cultural influence of tradition religions as Buddhism and Confucianism still has an effect on North Korean spiritual life.

For more than fifty years the North and the South have lived different lives under totally different political systems and developed separately from each other. Many people desire to unity again but I don’t want to unity together. In my opinion, rather than united again, I hope North and South accept and respect each other as a great country.

Type of college student’s motivation toward study

Northern Marianas College students should have responsibilities to motivate their own desires, but most of them don’t. Research has continually shown that motivation is the most important factor for success in most human endeavors. That is especially true for success in college. Here are three different types of students who have motivation toward college: high, regular, and low.

First of all, highly motivated students are enthusiastic and positive about learning.

Highly motivated students are enthusiastic and positive about learning. They like to dig in and learn as much as possible for the time and money spent on their education. They realistically evaluate their abilities in setting their goals, strive to overcome difficulties, and achieve success. They focus on goals that help them put the effort and do what is important to benefit from college. They are more likely to work hard and participate with their classmates and work continuously although they are faced with difficulties such as complex assignments. Highly motivated students are always thorough about preparing and reviewing their lessons. They always do assignments and projects beforehand. They never miss their assignments, exams or attendance. For example, one of my cousins has really dexterous ability. She had a firm goal which was to learn architectural design. She graduated from design high school and got accepted into the famous design college. For achieving her own goal, she put her soul into her work. Even though difficulty comes with a rush, she never gave up and overcame it. She graduated first on the list in college. She is still going a step forward slightly to her goal

A next group is regularly motivated students. These students are regular in their attendance but they don’t listen to lectures. Some students are really hard-working. They always try to do their best and spend much time for studying. But they have poor study skills and time management skills that make them get lower grades. They take every work too seriously. Although the assignment is simple, they cannot finish easily. They are more likely to daydream or draw during class. They seldom study and they only study when they have to submit homework or test. They are more likely to get crammed for a test or homework. If they pass the course, they don’t care anymore. Unfortunately, they just attend the college reluctantly because they have to go. They don’t have firm goals and what they want to be. Some of my friends usually ask other students to help their assignments. Because they are afraid to do homework alone or they don’t want to do it. They always get along somehow to finish their work faithfully. They only study when they have test or quiz. Third, there are the lowly motivated students. Unlike the highly motivated students, these students have negative and less enthusiasm towards academics. They are not motivated by the challenge and satisfaction of learning. Mostly, they lack interest in learning. They are often less successful because they do not accept responsibilities for their works and put forth less effort on challenging tasks. They receive a failing grade and repeat the course consecutively. They are more likely to hang out with friends and skip class. They are not trying, for instance, they usually sit silently, hiding at the back or the corner of the room, and postponing tasks. They just copy homework from friends and disturb other classmates all the time or sleep during class. Most of them tend to give up easily before they try to make up. Also, they are not cooperative in group work. They only think about study a lot and they never carry out the plan to practice. For example, someone, who took same class with me in last fall semester, was totally idle. She always came late for class, or didn’t show up. During the class, she is more likely to talk with friends rather than to listen to the lectures. She always asked me to do homework and copies my homework. She‘d never tried to do her best and thought negatively that she couldn’t do it herself. As a result, she couldn’t pass that class and went back to Korea.

Lastly, there is a student who always plays and does nothing. In this case, a student must be rich so that they do not even need to think of study or money. This type of student does not care about grade and just live life on one’s own. In other case, a student would get inherit fortune from parent or the company. Sometime these types of students get abandon by parent because they are so troublesome.

Definitely college students are more independent in forming their attitudes, concerning studying, which will affect their further life, rather than in high schools. I think the important thing is finding our own goal. That will help us to make highly motivated students. If you are interested in it, we are not to be biased and think only on one side but think in a whole view where we could see what can be done

EC: Snake

My most hated animal is snake. Snake is type of reptile. I used to think reptile is dinosaur but after I find out snake is one of reptile I could not believe it until I searched in internet. Snake is only animal that does not have legs. I personally do not like snake. By the way, who would like animal that might bite. When I was young I loved snake, because there was jelly shaped like snake with variety colors. I always ate that after school way to home. There are also people who breed snake as their pet. Sigh, I cannot believe that how they could live with dangerous snake! I am not a coward but snake as pet that is the worst pet I ever heard. As I heard, in Guam there are enormous numbers of snake, which means there are also many type of snake such as poisonous which I hated the most. Sadly I do not have my favorite snake, because I never searched or read article about snake so there was no chance to know about snake. Or it could be I just did not want to. I have a friend named James from Guam. He told me a lot of terrible stories about snake. For example he told me, he found snake while he was using toilet and he saw snake after we woke up from nap. If that happens to me I am going to pack up and leave this island or figure out the way to kill the entire snake! Guam and Saipan only 1 hour away by airplane but it seems to have big differences. The biggest problem is there is snake that has poison called brown-tree-snake. It has strong poison. It is found in Guam but Saipan yet. So it is good. I never seen snake in Saipan.

EC.- Type of animation

There are more than 3 million different animations. I could not watch them all. Animation is becoming most popular program among the student and also adults. I used to watch Japanese animation. Japan is very famous for animation such as Jjangu. Mostly Age between 13~19 watch anime from Japan. Japanese animation mostly has amusing stories. My favorite animation is called One-piece. This animation is about a guy’s adventure who is willing to become pirate king in one day. It is long animation I was watching this animation from 4 years ago, but it did not finish yet. I also like to watch long animation. Second long piece animation is Naruto. This animation is about ninja. There are a lot more episodes such as sports, vampire, boxing and soccer. These all different type of animation was more than enough to attract me. Japanese animation is keeps growing. By the way there is animation called The Fighting. This animation is about boxing. Main guy name is ippo, it shows hardship in one’s life as a champion. This animation is published already more than 5 years ago but it is still popular. Even thought i do not have interest in boxing, I enjoyed this animation. I Also thought about becoming a animation artist because, by making an animation I can earn huge money by publishing movie or advertisement. Once the character become popular it would bring great result.

If I could bring one person back to life that would it be my grandfather

If I could bring one person back to life that would it be my grandfather. I still remember his smile face. My grandfather was very tall so that he was called a tall lank person. He was the one who always took my side and one who always prayed for me. He was calling our family before the death. Maybe, he wanted see us before he die, and we met him before he die. We have not met each other for long period because I came to Saipan. There is something I must have done for him. So, if I get a chance to bring him back to life. I want to show him.

When tedious holidays come such as Thanksgiving Day and festive day my family, we used to visit grandfather’s house, which was four hours away from my home. So whenever we go to grandfather’s house I had to have bored and tiresome trip in the car. This was a pain in my ass, I always thought that I would rather spend time playing computer or playing with my friend than bored four hours of trip. Main reason for going there was for my grandfather, so I can play with him. I also liked my grandmother’s cook, when we get to her house she always prepared kimchi soup for us. This was my favorite time, eating after 4 hours of trip it was worth than eating a lobster. When I am done with dinning I used to go sit next to my grandfather and watched television. There was time when my dad and I were arguing for television channel, wanted sees news but I wanted see a movie, of course I could not go against my dad but my grandfather said “Let him watch whatever he wants to watch”. It was fun that I could not go against my father but he also did not go against his father so that I was able to watch a movie that night. We usually spend time talking and watching because I did not know geography of this area. Sometime he said he wish to go church together with me. But we did not go church together I just did not like to go church because I did not like to listen same story all the time. Holidays are over and when I leave I always gave him a little kiss on his cheek, by the way that was when I was only fourth grade. One year later, I came to Saipan. I could not visit on any holidays because cost and school. Several years passed all too soon. One day my family got a call that my grandfather got in traffic accident and he is in serious condition. So we had to go Korean as soon as possible. When I heard that he got in accident I did not felt anything perhaps we have not met a long period. We took the first airplane to Korea in the next morning. It was fall, which is a cold season.

When I get to my grandfather’s house he was laying down on the ground. My grandmother told me that we brought him because he really wanted sleeps one day at home. As I got closer to him, I heard his breathing getting louder and louder. And I said “Grandpa I am here your grandson Woo Jeong is here!” and he was trying to express that he can hear it by moving his body as possible he can and also he was moving his eye to contact my eye, it made me cry after all.

I want to bring my grandfather back to life. This is my plan first of all I will go church with h and watching movie. There are so many things that I want to do for him. So if I can bring him back to life I will not waste second chance!

Journal (10/20) - Mummification

More than 5,000 years ago, the Egyptians believed in an afterlife. There was one condition that was required to get that was required to get to the afterlife, Egyptians believed that dead body has to be preserved in good condition, because next world would be the same. In order to prevent decomposition, they came up the mummification. Basically, mummification is a process that is designed to preserve the body in good condition for long period of time also it was part of their traditional funeral. Another reason for developing the science of mummification was to protect the corpse in better condition. At the first Egyptians were buried in “Mastabas” tombs which were made of bricks or pit graves. It was very a creative style. As time passed by it became more lavish. Egyptians decided to make a tomb that would more safe. Around 1500 B.C. they came up with rock tombs. And then about 2500 B.C. they began to study mummification because air circulating caused bacteria. It caused bacteria because there was oxygen, microorganisms cannot live without air. In early 2^nd dynasty’s scientists believed in true mummification. The true mummification is the process that has been progressed during the experiment or when mummies contain the chemical and other agent. One of the best examples of true mummy is what Egyptologist J.E. Quibell has found during he was working at Saqqara grave yard. He found a mummy that appears to be used natron or other agents to preserve the body skin. This process was very impressive to anyone and also it still is helpful today. Another famous ecologist was W. M. Flinders Petrie. He found technique which is cover the body with fine linen and then coating with plaster. The mummification process was a creative invention. Still today, scientists are trying to figure out truth of mummification. Scientists and historian believe that there is more secret that have not been revealed. Also, many historians began to be interested in mummification, because with modern technology historians can find out an almost perfect image of mummy’s appearance of one's mummy. Historians are able to figure out the ancient people’s lifestyle by observing mummies. There were three types of mummification processes. The only difference among them was how much the materials cost. The first one was usually used for the royalty family. Second type is little bit different. First of all, cryptomeria oil was poured through anus then left it for 70 days. After the oils spilled away, the vital organs would melt in one day. Flesh will also melt by sodas, and then there will be only bones and skins later. The cheapest way of mummifying was removing vital organs by using a diarrhea medicine. Then it went to soda step like the others. Third one was most common process for Egyptians. Mummification was so unbelievable result that it became a big issue, because the mummification was great foundation that will affect today’s science. Also, scientists and historians were surprised at the technology of the Egyptians.

Wonders of SaipanSaipan

Saipan is located next to Guam. Saipan is also called Northern Mariana Island. Saipan is much smaller than Guam. About two years ago Saipan was not widely known, but there was huge growth in sightseeing. Nevertheless, it did not become well-known Island, although it is full of beautiful views. First of all, sea and clean environmental most pride of Saipan. Mariana sea is There is top 2 place must visit as tourist. Banzai cliff is one of the famous places in Saipan. Banzai Cliff is where defeated Japanese jumped down for death after the final salute to their emperor during the US invasion during WWII. It might be most mournful place in Saipan but it has extremely great view. In daytime, it has wonderful view of sea and in night time, there is a lot stars that seem so close than any other place in world. Next one to introduces is a Bird Island. This island is about 1/100 size of Saipan. This island just looks same as other small islands but it has big difference. It is predictable from name of island, why does island would be named Birds Island, because birds are living in that island. Bird Island is made of limestone. Limestone is stones that has a lot of holes. so it was perfect condition to birds to settle in the holes as the nest. It is rare that birds are living in rocks, it also has great view because island is on the sea. There are still many beautiful places to visit other than those two. Saipan also has different type of foods to eat and dances to watch. Saipan is not only about natural environment, there are so many things. What does a successful life mean to you? Successful life is when you attain what you had wished and dreamed in your entire life. Even though your dream maybe insignificant to others, you must have your own dream, because without a dream, life would be meaningless. That’s why we all want to accomplish a dream and become successful people.

This is what I believe, when I am conducting something that I want to do, I gather information and plan before I proceed. Because, if you do not have enough knowledge about what you are doing right now, it will lead you to failure. It does not need, but you need to be prepared.
In order to be prepared, these are the steps you should follow, First of all, you need to gather information, and then make practical plan based on information that you have collected, and, only then, you proceed with your plan.

For example, before putting together pieces of puzzles, you have to observe the completed picture of the puzzle. After that you make a plan and complete the outline of the puzzle. If we stand with outline plan it will help to put together the rest of puzzle pieces quicker. For instance, to build a house you need to have draft. Also to study for the test, you must know what sections would be on the test like study guides.

The famous speaker William Clarke said, “boys, be ambitious”. He mentioned five resources of success. He talked about five resources for success. First one is a dream, everyone needs a dream in order to proceed; they need dream in order to success. Second is a strategy one needs to be successful. Third is an intellect. In order to do something, it requires being talented at what you are doing. Forth, it is perseverance. In another words it means endurance, decisiveness, spirit. When you face against hardship, those would help you to defeat it. Lastly, he mentioned you should be prepared against in any situation.

By following these steps, one can become successful and be more efficient. So as result, I believe being more cautious and prepared on your dream and plan, it will only produce a satisfactory result.
